I have always been the outdoorsy type, loved growing up on a farm & exploring  nature. A few years ago, my sister & her significant other introduced me to hiking while in Colorado & I’ve been hooked ever since. Recently, on a hike up Camelback Mountain in Arizona with my husband, Brandon, it made me think about how hiking is like life.

It was one of the more difficult hikes that I have done, there were several parts of the hike where we were on all fours literally pulling ourselves up the rocks & up the mountain. It was intense & hard at times (and I feel like I am in decent shape).  There were moments where I was pretty nervous, especially when I was navigating a risky path along the edge & thought about how one wrong move could result in a pretty bad outcome. I literally told myself “Mind over Matter” several times! It was exhilarating, scary and awesome – all at the same time. There were times when I thought about giving up, but I knew we wanted to push to the top to accomplish what we set out to do. Brandon & I supported each other, helped each other on the trek and cheered each other on during the journey. My mom gave me a sign for our house that says – “You can’t see the view if you don’t climb the mountain” – and I thought of that quote several times on our ascent. When we arrived at the top, the view of the city of Phoenix was incredible – you could see for miles and it was breathtaking. The photo captures my excitement & pride – for the accomplishment and for the view!  On the way down, I met an awesome girl from North Carolina and we visited on a really deep level the entire way down the mountain. We exchanged beautiful conversation – about being a working mom to parenting to women supporting women and being an entrepreneur. For being a complete stranger, we talked about all sorts of things for over an hour.

As we got in the car after the long hike, it made me think about how this all relates to life. There are so many emotions you experience in life – you are sometimes scared & unsure of your capabilities and there are times you are excited & proud of what of what you can accomplish when you push yourself. There are times you have to get out of your comfort zone in order to achieve results, but that’s not easy, or even fun, at times. Sometimes you have to get mentally strong and focus to accomplish your goals. And sometimes, it’s important to have a support system that helps cheer you on even when you aren’t sure of yourself. In life, you meet amazing people along the way that are put in your path for a reason. And when you put in the time, effort & belief in yourself, you get to see amazing things flourish right before your eyes.

I find it so relatable, especially since I’ve started on my journey as a female entrepreneur this past year. I’ve felt uncomfortable at times and have had to “get outside of my own head” at times, but I’ve pushed myself and am really proud of what I am building. I make mistakes every single day, but that’s how I grow. Sometimes I need to remember to stop for a moment and take in the view. So today, I am taking time to celebrate where I’ve come, where I’m going and am I am so thankful for those who have helped cheer & support me along the way. As my business grows, I hope to support & encourage others as they pursue their passion too!
